Two-way radio hire for events and festivals

Stewards on the gate, security on the barrier, the stage manager, the medics, the car park team and whoever is running the show all need to be able to talk to each other straight away. Mobile phones struggle once a crowd arrives and the local mast fills up. Radios carry on working.

We supply event radios in packs of six or twelve, usually the FW-400, with a six-way charger, earpieces, spare batteries and a case. They are programmed to your channel plan and delivered the day before. On larger or more spread-out sites we add HP605 or R7 radios for the teams working outdoors and an FW-600 for the controller and put a repeater on a mast so the whole field is covered. You do not need to apply for a licence because hired radios run under ours.

Hire by the day, the weekend or the season. We deliver to the venue, help set up if you want us to, and collect once the site is cleared.

What matters in events and festivals

The problems radios solve here, and how we set them up.

Crowds and mobile signal

When thousands of phones are on one mast, calls stop connecting. Radios use their own licensed frequencies and are not affected.

Temporary staff

The FW-400 has a channel knob, a volume knob and a push-to-talk button. It announces the channel when you turn the knob. There is nothing to train people on.

Large sites and long days

A 4 W handheld covers most showgrounds. A repeater doubles that and lets two groups talk at the same time. Batteries last a full day and spares are in the pack.

Weather

The Hytera HP605 and Motorola R7 are IP68 rated and will cope with a wet weekend outdoors. Every pack includes a dry case.

Events and festivals: common questions

How many radios does my event need?

As a rule of thumb, one for each person who needs to make a decision or raise an alarm: steward supervisors, security, medics, car parking, stage and production. For an event of around 2,000 people that usually comes to between 12 and 20 radios. Send us your staffing plan and we will work it out with you.

Can different teams have their own channel?

Yes. We set up separate groups for security, stewards, production, medical and so on, plus an all-call channel for the event controller.

Do you deliver to the site?

Yes, to the production office or a named person on site, the day before the event. We collect the day after. In Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire we can set up on site on the day.

Do we need an Ofcom licence for an event?

No. Event hire runs under our Ofcom supplier licence. For very large events, or where interference is a concern, we can apply for dedicated frequencies for the dates.
