Two-way radios for manufacturing

Downtime on a production line costs money by the minute. The maintenance engineer needs to know the moment a machine stops, the shift lead needs to move people between lines without walking the floor, and the lone operator in the plant room at night needs to be covered. Radios shorten the gap between a problem and the right person knowing about it.

Factory fleets are usually Hytera HP605 or Motorola R7 handhelds with noise cancelling, plus an FW-600 or R7 display model for supervisors, running through a repeater that covers several buildings and the yard. Where a site has a hazardous area such as a paint shop or a solvent store, we can supply ATEX-certified radios from Hytera or Motorola on request.

Manufacturers normally lease the fleet and we maintain it: batteries, replacements and reprogramming as lines and teams change.

Typical accessories

  • Heavy-duty headsets
  • ATEX accessories on request
  • Multi-chargers
  • Chest harnesses

What matters in manufacturing

The problems radios solve here, and how we set them up.

Noise

Noise cancelling and heavy-duty headsets keep calls clear beside presses and lines.

Hazardous areas

ATEX zones need intrinsically safe radios. We supply certified handsets and matching accessories for those areas, on the same channels as the rest of the fleet.

Several buildings

A repeater on the tallest building covers the whole site. Messages and job tickets reach engineers wherever they are.

Lone workers

Man-down and lone-worker alarms for night shifts and plant rooms.

Manufacturing: common questions

Do we need ATEX radios?

If any part of the site is classified as a hazardous zone under DSEAR, only intrinsically safe radios may be used there. We supply ATEX handsets for those areas and standard radios elsewhere, all on the same channels.

Can engineers receive job tickets?

Yes. Display radios such as the R7 receive messages and job tickets from a dispatch console, and the engineer acknowledges with a key press.

Can the radios link to machine alarms?

Yes. Machine alarms, fire panels and BMS outputs can trigger a message or a tone to a group of radios through an interface unit.
